Culture Capture:  gamification of cultural interaction where cultural similarities are explored through interaction design and user experience methods

My project targets a global audience and particularly an audience not familiar with cultural learning and interaction.

Culture Capture has been driven by existing global cultural exclusivity and therefore focuses on creating welcoming and respectful digital and physical environments for everyone regardless of their cultural identity.

Within the app, the concept of cultural similarities is portrayed through gamification, where users can capture cultural objects through marker-less and location-based AR technology and learn about cultural values and objects that are similar to the captured cultural object. Through cultural gamification, users can become familiar with cultural interaction and therefore create culturally welcoming and respectful environments through their connection of cultural similarities.

A human-centered and co-design approach was utilized for this project to fully understand what would engage a wide group of users with cultural content and what interaction design methods would attract and guide users throughout their experience of digital cultural interaction.

Culture Capture is an app that focuses on creating meaningful cultural connections by attracting the user to the concept of cultural similarities through interactive gamification and therefore portrays the message of “Similarities within Differences”.

The message fundamentally focuses on encouraging users to create environments for everyone to feel welcomed and respected regardless of their cultural identity. I believe that it is important to do so as cultural inclusivity is crucial for the diverse present day we live in.

Through Culture Capture, users will be able to understand that even though we all have existing differences, we all have similarities in any way. After all, we are all human.
