'Rent is Overdue' is a short film about a single mother who in complete desperation takes the job of a one-time hitman in order to earn some “easy” cash; in order to pay her rent. This 3D animated short film explores various different real human emotions, questioning morality in a time of need.
The aim of this project was to investigate into creating a film using real-time technology in Unreal Engine 4 - focusing on world building, lighting, and cinematography. Using this real-time engine, I heavily relied on the visual storytelling in order to create a sense of mood and atmosphere. Over the course of this project I had the opportunity to study facial-motion capture through the utilization of Live-Link - going into depth about creating an effective framework for achieving convincing and emotionally communicative facial motion-capture.
The main aim of this project was to familiarize myself with the VFX pipeline and engage in every step of the filmmaking process. I wrote my own story, designed the characters, created 9 different environments, hand-animated our characters, and putting the film together, which was a very valuable learning experience.
