Stolen Clothing

This body of work reflects women of history who have overcome adversity through sheer strength and tenacity. Embodied in these garments are fragments of their histories, the stories of soldaderas. The past is reimagined into present day, told through the repurposing of historical patterns and traditional hand-craft practices of smocking and needle craft.

Telling the story of powerful soldaderas, the guide leaps through various settings tied to their identity, ones of motherhood, sisterhood, as a daughter, and wife as well as a soldier. The guide is first and foremost practical, adapting and making do with what they can get their hands on.
