The expression of boredom through the experience of Dyslexia and ADHD

This project is based on my auto-ethnography approach to visualise my expression of boredom through my experience with dyslexia and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Using my experience of boredom within my education to drive this project. That the creative coping methods used because of boredom were looked at as ‘unintelligent’ and ‘naughty’ when they were completely the opposite.

The relevance of this project relates to everyone as we all deal with ‘boredom’ but to show the dyslexic and ADHD perspective to combat negative stereotypes. It also made connections to the idea of the education system and how it could be seen as outdated and non-inclusive. The design created was a series of A4 cards/prints and concertina within a designed cardboard packaging. The cards/prints are designed to be a collection and to stand alone as individuals, the concertina is a poetic representation of my journey. Within the design of this project, I investigated new ways to display typography and illustration to relate and make connections to dyslexia and ADHD. The expression of boredom through the experience of dyslexia and ADHD contributes a new perspective and experience to challenge and educate individuals about these learning disabilities and the perpetuation of boredom.
