A Designer's Guide for Change
Turning the Page is an inclusive guide designers can use and refer to when striving to be more inclusive or working alongside marginalised groups. Turning the Page includes text written by designers working in this space, my personal work, as well as useful strategies designers can use, all focusing on the intersection of graphic design and racial social change.
My project, Turning the Page: A Designer’s Guide for Change, explores the intersection of graphic design and racial social justice. Graphic designers can use and refer to the guide when striving to be more inclusive or when working alongside marginalised groups. While it is important to look back and see where designing for change began, it is also important to turn the page and look at what we’re doing and what more we can do to further this growing movement. I created this guidebook to join in this strive for change where we see an increase in designing for racial social justice and amplifying the voices of marginalised groups.
Separated into four main sections, this Wire-O bound guidebook takes readers through diverse graphic design theory, history, current efforts, helpful steps and so much more. I strongly believe you cannot design for racial social justice without making the industry diverse itself, or at the very least, without informing designers about a diverse history and how to design for and alongside racial justice efforts, and this was the reason behind the curation of these selected articles, case studies, personal experiences, and useful tips.
