Our project is titled “A-1”, which is the name of the protagonist. A-1 is a female humanoid butler that was created by a genius scientist. The story takes place in Seoul in 2177, where all living organisms have been wiped out due to an unknown virus. The story begins with A-1 being awakened by a mysterious creature, “Tulu”. However, the long time of sleep has caused a crucial error in A-1's memory system; she does not remember anything or have any emotions. She sees a damaged family photo of her previous master’s family, which causes a memory induction. She decides to take a journey to Paris, where the photo was taken, to find out what she has lost in the past 100 years.

A-1 is a story-based animated short that explores how I can depict a meaningful narrative by experimenting with nostalgia while attempting to bring a sense of joy to the scene. This is my journey of familiarizing myself towards Japanese-style animation, for which I have a great passion.
Our project is called A-1 and is about an emotionally stunted android who explores a post-apocalyptic world set in the distant future where no more living things are left due to a mysterious pandemic. A-1 is awakened by a mystical creature, Tulu, and decides to take a journey with the intention of retrieving her memories/emotions by reaching a destination where the only clue lies.
I explored key themes and concepts that I acquire to answer my research question:“what is the creative potential for a story based in a post-apocalyptic setting to evoke a message of joy? How can I use hybrid animation to convey this story?”
