Candid photography immortalising forgotten moments

This project sets out to explore both singularity and connection using candid portraiture and video recording in an urban environment. My aim is to showcase people's singularity as they go through their day, but by presenting these photos of singularity as a collection of images, they are no longer singular but part of a group of individuals unknowingly connected. These photographs will surround CCTV-style video recordings with supporting audio.

For this project, I chose to take audio recordings, photography and videography where the subjects are unaware. I use this method, as it highlights a person's unperformed action when they don't know they are being recorded and don't make a gesture or motion for the camera, simply existing in their natural form. I set out not to capture specific people or demographics but to photograph people who interest me or perform an action that catches my attention. My idea when photographing these seemingly meaningless moments during a subject's day is that by capturing these permanent images I could immortalise these moments and create a meaningful collection of moments from many different lives combined together.

My main display is comprised of 5 CRT televisions arranged with 4 smaller televisions wrapping a large central television. Each smaller television will play recorded CCTV-style video footage while my large central display will run a live video feed, including the audience in the exhibition
