Coastal Clean Scoop and Bin public plastic pickup system

Coastal clean is an engaging system that encourages beachgoers to pick up plastic litter from the coastline. This scoop and bin is a hands on activity that spreads awareness on the plastic pollution issue.

The coastal clean scooper called Shelly the Shark creates a fun way of filtering out smaller plastics and microplastics from the sand. The sharks’ fins and curved nose helps scoop the plastic filled sand while staying contactless from plastic waste. The bin would be located near pedestrian walkways to catch beachgoers attention with its colorful, playful large imagery. This bin provides more of an educational understanding of plastic pollution affects on the environment with point of views and facts from various  marine mammals. This product is mainly directed towards children and families however everyone is welcome to use. The coastal clean scoop and bin would be located at various city beaches throughout Auckland. The final bin would be made from metal, and the scooper would be wood coated in resin to withstand outdoor conditions. This activity donew in collective effort will have communities feeling more hopeful and inspired by taking action to help the environment.
