With Aotearoa attributed to having one of the highest youth suicide rates in the OECD, For When You’re Stuck offers itself as a contemporary graphic translation of traditional mental health and wellbeing resources, as a means to provide greater access and equity of mental health for youth. Distilled throughout a variety of digital and tangible collateral including a deck of cards, social media, UI widgets and a website; For When You’re Stuck presents itself as a highly accessible resource; un-sticking the stigma that being stuck means being alone.

A proposition toward the facilitation and greater access of mental health and wellbeing resource for our rangatahi in Aotearoa, For When You’re Stuck explores the discourse of our youth’s mental health in a human-centered graphic inquiry. Taking license from existing mental health resources, this project drive its genesis from the traditional Maori philosophy of wellbeing framework; hauora, which can be represented by four pillars; social, mental emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing.

In a graphic translation of traditional ideologies, this project seeks to invigorate hauora into a more contemporary graphic language fit for our current rangatahi. Utilising a playful, personal, thoughtful and energising tone of voice, For When You’re Stuck presents itself across a multitude of digital and tangible mediums, in turn addressing the in-demand need for accessible and targeted mental health and wellbeing resource.
