Explore the Auckland you never knew
Its face is changing from brick to glass, but some of downtown Auckland still holds windows into the past. Forgotten Landscapes is a three-part visual exploration of the history and demolition of some of Auckland's historical buildings.
Over time, urbanisation and growing demand for land have led to the dissapearance of historic buildings in cities worldwide. Auckland was and is no exception. This project aims to create an interactive way to discover the history behind several demolished buildings in downtown Auckland. The name ‘Forgotten Landscapes’ indicates an alternative make-up of an architectural setting from a previous time in history. The website provides a three-part visual exploration of such buildings and how their demolition has affected the surrounding environment and the people who inhabit them.
