I’m interested in capturing illustrations of the fond memories I have shared with some of the birds I have met whilst volunteering at a bird rehabilitation centre. I hope to create an effective connection between the viewers of my work and the plight of our New Zealand native birds. I am fascinated by New Zealand’s ecology particularly the relationship between birds and trees, living in such harmony parallel to our extremely busy and disconnected lives. I’ve always enjoyed observing the natural world, watching the brilliant colours melt into each other as the seasons slowly transform. I try to capture these transformations of colour in my own work, also adding a few extra vibrant colours in contrast with my dull-coloured New Zealand birds. Being an art student in times of Covid and having to isolate through the majority of my degree, has taught me to appreciate and be inspired by the small aspects of life that I often don’t take much notice of; like watching flowers bloom or listening to birds sing to each other in the trees.
