Local Treasures

Bachelor of Design Photography Publication Community Food Identity Storytelling

A journey through Thai street food

Local Treasures is a publication that aims to discover, connect and celebrate the vibrant culture of Thai street food in Bangkok. The project showcases the street environment and local stories from three locations, Yaowarat Road, Silom Road, and Maha Chai Road, along with well-known recipes to take away.

The significance of this project was to rediscover a part of my cultural identity as a multicultural individual in New Zealand. My mother is Thai and she immigrated from her home country to New Zealand to start a new life. This project became an opportunity for me to reconnect with my mother's culture and commemorate her hard work in raising me and her love for cooking.

The concept of food universally connects individuals with their community, country, culture, heritage and ultimately their identity, without the need to understand the language. It is an experience any individual can partake in and enjoy.
