Neighbourhoods

Greetings from South Auckland

This project explores the raw beauty of suburbs in South Auckland I closely connect with. Three interactive rooms that highlight three suburbs Mangere, Otahuhu, and Manurewa.

South Auckland, New Zealand. A place within Auckland that is stuck in time, but with a community that continuously moves forward. This personally-led project took me into the heart of the community and reflected on a sense of gathering and love that everyone in these suburbs feels. Neighborhoods embodies the raw beauty of select South Auckland suburbs, revealing the sometimes subtle and other times not-so-subtle blanket that protrudes over my home. Idealities of the ‘rough and tumble’ district of Auckland are forecasted through gang-related violence, domestic abuse, and our ongoing housing crisis. And, although our surroundings might not be of par, covered in graffiti and falling apart, our community grows stronger every day and becomes a more integral part of the neighborhoods that we live in. Step into a day of my world. My footprint might be small, but my love for this community is as big as the world it’s in.
