Bei Deng

This body of work is inspired by the documentary, My Octopus Teacher (2020). When watching this, I was fascinated by the high intelligence of the octopus and his ability to form relationships with other species.  Using this as my inspiration, I worked to connect the octopus with the human body, thereby creating new silhouettes. In my "octopus world", humans and octopuses have combined genes and so have different bodies and functions. For me, the human imagination is the starting point of civilization’s development. As a student of fashion design, I believe it is also important to use clothing as a carrier of my imagination and at the same time, to study how clothing can serve people and inherit culture.
