Seeking the other side of Auckland City through photography and collage.

This project is an insight into the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi demonstrated  through photography and collage. The motivation for 'out of sight, out of mind' came from my ongoing love of street photography and the idea championing imperfection within Auckland City. I took photographs of the less celebrated parts of the city and manipulated these images using collage to break the traditional rules of photography.

The final result was a wire-bound publication that showcases each collage. The artworks were printed on a risograph with black ink. The cover, context pages, middle spreads and back cover were separated from the rest of the publication through the use of a deep blue ink, a colour taken from Auckland Transport's brand guidelines. Two forms of media — collage and publication — are combined to create a publication that champions the imperfect nature of our city.
