An experimental observation of coincidence and synchronicity.

This project was an experimental and emotional process which allowed me to watch something develop in my own hands without any preconceived ideas of how the final spreads would unfold. Paper which had been discarded by others and were on their way to being recycled were carefully selected for binding within the final artefact. Through coincidence and synchronicity, I was able to allow the final publishing of ‘Paper Trail’ to be constructed and I was given the opportunity to observe as coincidental details of patterns, collisions, and unexpected contrasts would emerge in front of my eyes. The project is centred on the value and beauty of paper, looking at its physicality, textures, and our interactions with it.

This project's contextual and methodological understanding covers the history, use, physicality, and texture of paper and its impacts on our society. While doing so, I have thoroughly investigated the physicality and tactile nature of different paper stocks. With hopes for the reader to understand the beauty of the many stocks of paper used in my publication, I will try to express my admiration for the handcrafted physicality and depth of art and design. This publication serves as a record of my capstone project at Auckland University of Technology. As you navigate the pages, you become aware of the timeline given for creating this project, which motivates you to study the origins of each page carefully.
