Can you be nostalgic from memories you’ve never had?

Reminiscence is a body of work that fuses artisanal craftsmanship and textile manipulation techniques to create clothing that evoke emotions of nostalgia, warmth and child-like playfulness.

This collection titled ‘Reminiscence’ aims to convey a sense of nostalgia influenced by the memories shared by the children, often orphaned, at workhouses in 19th century Britain. The central themes of warmth and refuge expressed through the historical research are explored in Reminiscence by textile and fabric manipulations such as quilting, natural dyeing, and the artisanal craftsmanship of crochet. These ideas and techniques are fused with atypical proportions in womenswear, or rather childrenswear, to portray a childlike playfulness that situates the work in contemporary fashion.
