Artmaking is a therapeutic and joyful process for me. What I produce is a response to the things I experience and my internal feelings. I like to incorporate an uncanny sense of humor in my work as I am interested in how it affects reactions amongst the audience. These paintings are of my sister (Keeley ) or myself. We send each other ‘ugly’ selfies, I guess it's sort of like a competition to see who can be the most creative and take the most unusual selfie. You open the picture and it's like what the hell?

There's still massive societal pressure to look and behave a certain way and it is enforced through the media. This creates claustrophobic molds and narrowly defined beauty standards that are so toxic. Through these figures, I like to grill this visceral bodily experience as a means of challenging these societal pressures that I experienced and witnessed as a young female.

“I respond to things immediately in like an emotional guttural way and that's like how decisions are formed.” - Jamian Juliano Villani Just you do you girly! You know? but also with peace and love stuff you! <3
