A bicycle service history database

Design a bicycle service history database for cyclists and bike shops.

My design project, Synbike, is about designing a bicycle service history database for cyclists and bike shops.

Having your bicycle stolen is heartbreaking. But the more frustrating thing is when you cannot get your bike back just because you are not able to prove ownership. One common solution is registering the bike on the registration platforms. The registration used a bike’s unique serial number to identify a bike. However, many bike owners are unaware of a bike serial number. It makes filling out the bike registration forms more difficult because they require their own research on how to find a serial number, bike model, model year and frame material.

My idea is to transfer the responsibility of bike registration to the bike shops. Just like how a medical history is built by doctors, we can have a “bicycle medical history” built by bike mechanics. In this project, I want to create a database to connect all the stakeholders in one place to solve the bike stolen problem, including cyclists and bike shops. My vision projects a community with all the bikes registered in the system, making it impossible to sell a stolen bike to make a profit.
