The Facade has old transparency slides inside its new glass doors. While from far away they just look like small blocks of colour, upclose you can see images of the past.

A Centre for Moving Image

My Centre for Moving Image is a 24hr gallery space in Imperial Lane that introduces a mixture of soft textile designs to the rough patchwork of existing materials. The space plays with ideas of motion and emotion and how tactile surfaces can evoke different memories. The Tactile Archive has a series of repeated circular screens that will display the work of moving image artists throughout the day and night. The space has a small snack bar and kitchen that will provide coffee and food during the day before changing into a bar at night to accommodate the nightlife that occupies Fort Lane.

The cylindrical screens will display the work of moving image artists while also having the alternative of being used as a coffee table for customers. The surrounding of these screens are made with basket weaving techniques, using recycled materials and embroidery string.

As you walk further into the space you encounter a wall of circular screens which work together to display one moving image. These screens were inspired by the french knots used in embroidery with french knots being used the same as pixels in an image.
