A Long Walk Home

Bachelor of Design 2D animation Graphic Novel Moving Image Narrative

My project was created to explore the question of “Observing how horror as a genre is portrayed in mediums such as comics and graphic novels; how can one effectively and consistently invoke feelings of fear and suspense in a short narrative with support from sequential images and motion?”. I was inspired by my love of horror comics and animation, as well as my fascination with psychology and emotions. The combination of these two left me curious about the inner machinations of the horror genre, and the difference between how this genre works for comics compared to animation. This then led me to seeking out similarities between the two mediums, and how I could utilize and combine them. Thus, “A Long Walk Home” was created; an animated motion comic for fellow fans of horror, animation, and comics like me. I created this project through a combination of Toonboom Harmony rigged animation and Clip Studio Paint illustration and frame by frame animation, with post-production work done in Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro.
