Zhenyu Fang

In this artistic practice and creative process, I imagined myself as Nuwa, placing myself within her perspective and immersively experiencing the entire narrative. I moved fluidly between artistic imagination and the real world. By imitating Nuwa’s actions and the artistic thinking of ancient creators, I produced a series of 2D storyboards and the original sketches of sculpture .

Inspired by the story of Nuwa creating humanity and the sketches developed throughout my creative process, I created a sculpture of Nuwa by combining my own posture while painting on the beach, the gesture of holding a willow branch, and my imagined image of Nuwa from the paintings. The sculpture's face is based on a 3D scan of my own face, establishing a personal connection between myself and the story of Nuwa creating humanity. The implement held in Nuwa's hand is a sculptural form that intertwines the concepts of qi, DNA, and willow branches.
