GT HSQ V.01: A highly adjustable dual-mode simulation racing shifter.

This project explores the development of a hyper-adjustable dual-mode shifter for sim racing enthusiasts. It considers the growing demand for realistic and immersive racing experiences, while focusing on users ranging from competitive racers to casual hobbyists. The design outcome is a versatile, ergonomic shifter that seamlessly transitions between 6-speed H-pattern and sequential modes.

The major goal in designing this shifter was to consider sustainability and a circular economy while also improving realism, after recognising the demand for more ecologically aware items in the sim racing market.

Key design elements include the use of recycled cast aluminium and ABS, which greatly minimise energy usage and waste. The modular design enables simple repairs and upgrades, which extends the product's life. Mechanical resistance provides realistic force feedback, removing the need for unnecessary and unsustainable electronics. Sustainable manufacturing techniques were prioritised, and material usage was focussed on while maintaining structural integrity. The development process involved extensive iterative design and testing, incorporating user feedback to refine ergonomics and functionality.

This concept is significant because it represents a more sustainable approach to sim racing equipment. The shifter helps to create a circular economy by utilising recycled materials, having a modular design, and taking end-of-life recycling into consideration. It provides customers with a high-performance, customisable experience while minimising negative environmental impact, establishing a new benchmark for eco-friendly sim racing devices.
