Funny because it's painfully true.
Meme This is a digital awareness campaign that explores how online humour, memes, and relatable content shape the way young women understand period pain. While these conversations can create connection and help people feel less alone, they can also influence what is considered “normal”. Through real stories, social media content, educational resources, and support pathways, the project encourages women in Aotearoa to reflect on the messages they encounter online and reconsider assumptions they may have accepted about pain. Rather than focusing on providing more information, Meme This responds to the growing normalisation of severe period pain in digital spaces by creating opportunities for recognition, reflection, and informed decision-making. It asks a simple question: when does something become normal simply because we see it everywhere?
