Ratcheting Monostrap Bike Helmet

ADPT addresses a critical gap in youth bike helmet safety: poor strap usability often leads to improper fit, increasing the risk of injury. Inspired by a love for two wheels and the joy of exploring the outdoors with my younger brother, my project set out to create a helmet that ensures a secure, intuitive fit every ride.

Recognising that adjusting straps under the chin is awkward and ambiguous, ADPT outperforms existing helmets by eliminating this source of confusion. By shifting to a ratcheting monostrap, users slip on the strap and turn the adjustment dial, tightening the strap in precise 3 mm increments. This tactile, audible, and ergonomic interaction minimises confusion, discomfort, and misfit.

By improving helmet usability and fit, ADPT encourages cycling as a resilient, health-positive mode of transport for our tamariki and rangitahi. ADPT now to find your fit every ride.
