Culturing Community Connectedness within the AUT public

This project explores the issues claimed by various interviews and accounts from students describe AUT culture as sterile, badly maintained, lacking student involvement and lacking information. This research also led to a retro-innovation of the public bulletin board. By analysing community connections through public paper-based bulletin boards and online bulletin boards

This artifact covers a range of different sized screens.

  • Large-format 16:9 screen (iPad) to show the idea of an interactive touch screen kiosk for the public bulletin board.
  • A CRT TV + Fight stick explores an idea of a cheap, and accessible student lead bulletin board. fighting the problem of maintenance cost of a large public touch screen bulletin board a suggested by various case studies. This idea would also be accessible by students making the bulletin board non-profit and student led
  • Personal devices like computers and phones feature the same content as public screens, with added functionality for users to upload content.

Through these interconnected public bulletin boards—both on public screens and personal devices—students will have a platform to announce, share, and spread information. Given the project's emphasis on community, special attention will be paid to the user experience, making User-centred Design the ideal approach for addressing these issues. This initiative aims to strengthen the AUT community and attract future students by showcasing a vibrant, connected culture.
