Beyond The Image

Bachelor of Design Furniture Interior Design Retail Experience Narrative Story-telling

Beyond the image is a comic book shop that draws a relationship between comic book storytelling and real-life experiences.  The standard comic book consists of a series of square and rectangular frames separated by evenly spaced-out gutters.  Each page is a collection of static moments in time, allowing the reader to interpret a story.  If we look at our lives as a series of frames I wonder what our actions, feelings, and interactions with others would look like.  In reality, the experiences may not be so standardly structured.  Some parts of our lives may go on for longer, some experiences may be more significant than others and different parts of our lives may intersect with each other.
Inspired by comic art produced by "Image Comics", this store uses unconventional framing right throughout the space, from the entrances to the shelving as well as the furniture.  Customers are invited to journey through the space, entering and exiting various frames along the way.
