A Filipino based meal kit made from banana fibre packaging inspired by traditional Filipino boodle fights.

The brief for BoodleBox was to create a meal kit that embodies Filipino culture and brings the communal experience of a boodle fight into people’s kitchens. My goal was to make Filipino traditions accessible while blending convenience with cultural education. I designed BoodleBox for anyone curious about Filipino cuisine and heritage, from the Filipino community to people exploring new culinary experiences.

The main idea was to combine cultural immersion with practicality, allowing users to cook authentic Filipino dishes while learning about its history. Inspired by the traditional use of banana leaves in boodle fights, I designed the packaging from eco-friendly banana fiber paper pulp. The box unfolds in a way that mimics this traditional setup, revealing organized ingredients, recipe cards, and historical notes, providing users with a meaningful connection to Filipino food culture.

Throughout the process, I experimented with banana fiber paper pulp for its sustainability and strength. This approach is significant because it offers a new, inclusive and fun way for people to engage with Filipino culture. BoodleBox brings culinary and cultural exploration together to promote the respect for heritage while being environmentally responsible, making it more than just a meal kit—it’s a cultural experience.
