Welcome To The World of Burning Effigies, A Concept Art Exhibition

Burning Effigies is a narrative story and rich world that’s been brought to life in a series of paintings. Exploring fantasy, trauma, the beauty of accepting your past, and the pain of evolving into a new self, these oil paintings explore key moments of the story,   character portraits and environments in this other realm. This series of concept art is the beginning of the world building for this project that will eventually become a video game. The fantastical story unfolds from the perspective of our heroine, Morrigan.

Morrigan awoke in a forest to the north, emerging in a burst of light from rich soil, covered in moss. No memories, no knowledge of who she is aside from her name. Led by a dark steed, she is taken to a mysterious man living on the edge of the forest. From his cottage, you can see the realm stretch out far, the looming silhouette of the Glimmering Kingdom hazy on the far shoreline. Deep purple patches stain the land. Her first night, she is haunted by vivid dreams. A sense of danger, and corruption. The next day, Morrigan and Roan set off to the Kingdom.

Throughout their journey, they uncover weapons of healing, a dark power growing ever stronger, and it culminates in a chilling revelation for not only Morrigan, but the fate of the Realm.
