My project explored how environmental storytelling can enhance narrative depth within animation based on the research question, “How can I use software such as MAYA to create 3D environments that tells a narrative without direct external exposition”. The project involved producing a 3-minute animated short, Blindvei. Drawing inspiration from Adventure Time and Gravity Falls, the environment uses visual cues such as graffiti, children’s drawings, and composition to reveal story elements. Guided by narratological theory by Henry Jenkins, the project shows how environmental design can act as an active storytelling device, enhancing immersion and worldbuilding while highlighting the value of a focused scope in animation practice.
