A cafe for connections

The Current café, located on the edge of the Auckland Electric Power Board building in Nuffield Street, Newmarket, offers a space to spark meaningful interactions and foster a sense of connection between people. The AEPB building connected people across Auckland through energy. To keep the historic building alive, the space encourages a flow of positive energy and connections between individuals and their surroundings. Using playful, socially connecting furniture, such as a modular system joined with magnets, to encourage interaction. My use of wood joinery symbolises connection in physical objects, representing the act of bringing two things into contact, mirroring the café's intent to bring people together. The spatial and graphic identity uses a brand system to work together and ensure the brand is recognisable and communicates its ideas clearly. The Current café is a space where energy flows through meaningful connections between people, their environment, and the legacy of the AEPB building. Because without connection, energy cannot flow.
