The design of Dog Friendly takes inspiration from the dynamic and expressive nature of comic books. The visual grid formed by horizontal shelves and vertical supports mirrors the panel grid seen in comics, creating a layout reminiscent of graphic narratives. As people browse for comics, the free exploration of dogs within these spaces intersects with the grid, reflecting the gestural lines found in comics and manga.

Furthermore, the design pays specific attention to the concept of the "gutter" in comics—the space between panels where the reader's imagination fills in the narrative. In Dog Friendly, the spaces between bookshelves and seating platforms serve as metaphorical gutters, allowing both human visitors and their canine companions to weave their own stories within the comic-inspired environment. This intentional design approach not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also fosters a unique and interactive experience for both comic enthusiasts and their furry friends.
