Focus in Stylisation

Echo is a CG animated short film that blends 2D and 3D mediums, with a focus on themes of imagination, fantasy and escapism told through a painted art style. The aim of this project is to answer the question, "How can matte painting and texturing evoke a child-like wonder and nostalgia in hybrid media?".  This project uses practice-based research processes and formal theories to inform character and environment design, narrative, and stylistic decisions that come together to form a dreamy, other-worldly atmosphere. It uses classic 2D animation methods to create immersive backgrounds, and 3D animated characters for a contemporary flair.
