The 'idea' of home, placelessness and diaspora

How do we comprehend the feelings associated with being in a state of flux? The transient nature of our changing world can be complicated to process. Through the use of gestural and lyrical abstraction, I tackle this personal dilemma through the active and tactile making of my works. I predominantly work on large-scale loose canvas, pouring diluted paint to form ‘floating fields of colour’. In response, I then reworked and modified certain aspects using oil paint, acrylic, and oil pastels. Through these formal elements and the internal dialogue they create, I am able to use my practice in a therapeutic and reidentifying way. Exploring the push and pull within a painting, the interactions of the materials coupled with my artistic interventions and the intuitive nature of abstraction has allowed me to understand those feelings of transience.
