Feels Like Home

Bachelor of Design Publication Illustration Mixed Media Speculative Built Environment Identity

How can tangible artefacts develop young adults’ understanding, through mixed media, of how objects facilitate the feeling of home? Feels Like Home explores and documents the objects that facilitate the feeling of ‘home’ for me, used to create an understanding of how objects can affect your surroundings. This project is for young adults who are about to, are currently, or have recently moved residence. Methods included photography, watercolour, and Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Construction methods have included Pamphlet and Coptic stitch binding, laser cutting, and Cricut. Contextual research involved analysing several case studies and peer-reviewed articles on both topical research and visual strategies. This project aims to impact the wellbeing of young adults going through transitional periods with an easy-to-digest, visually soft way to understand how different objects and their presence can impact their sense of home.
