My project explored a common problem students face: relying on processed foods due to academic pressure, busy schedules, and tight budgets. The way we engage with and consume food has changed dramatically as our eating patterns are becoming less rigid and no longer centred around three meals a day. As processed food dominates campus environments and delivery apps make unhealthy options increasingly accessible, interaction design offers an opportunity to reshape online food platforms and make it easier for students to find nutritious, convenient meals.
The project explores the question: “How might we support AUT students’ eating habits so eating well becomes a joyful part of campus life?”
Using a human-centred design approach, this project prioritises AUT students’ perspectives throughout the design process, ensuring solutions directly address their needs and challenges. Food is Fuel is a pick-up meal platform that connects busy students with affordable, nutritious meals from local food vendors, helping students stay energised and focused on what matters most.
