Exploring Mental Noise Through Moving Image and Sound

My work explores what it feels like to live with ADHD, focusing on the discomfort, emotional unpredictability and constant noise inside my head. Diagnosed at 18, I spent much of my life struggling to understand why I thought and acted differently from others. Through this project, I want to communicate my experiences honestly, inviting viewers into my personal space and giving them a glimpse into my mind.

The installation consists of four moving-image pieces filmed from different perspectives within my bedroom. Showing ordinary, everyday actions, the videos explore the frustration, stillness and discomfort that can exist within seemingly simple moments. Through overlapping footage, repetition and layered sound, I aim to reflect the feeling of multiple thoughts competing for attention.

Rather than acting out ADHD, I allowed things to happen naturally, capturing the small, uneventful moments that often go unnoticed. I want to show the reality of my everyday experiences, including the waiting, frustration and stillness that can be difficult to explain through words alone.

By sharing a space that is usually private, I hope viewers can connect with my experiences, sit with the discomfort and recognise parts of themselves within the noise. Ultimately, the work is an invitation to experience a small part of what living with ADHD feels like and to find connection in experiences that can often feel isolating.
