FUTURA is an interactive desk installation in which the narrative of a fictional 1990’s mall and an amateur researcher’s investigation is scattered over flickering CRTs, film photographs and collected archival documents. The desk and its framing partitions sit on a rug in the dark, an isolated scene that spills out CRT static and warm lamplight. The installation has three components: the VHS tape and video work, the photography, and the constructed documents in the ring binder and desk. The story told through these isn’t entirely complete, with details on the identity of the researcher and motivation being left much to an audience’s interpretation, and it becomes easier for them to take the role because of it.
