Choose. Project. Experiment.

My project, GlowGuide, explored how industrial design could create a screen-free makeup guidance tool for teenagers and beginners. Designed for use in a private, at-home environment, the project focused on encouraging creative experimentation while reducing reliance on social media, digital beauty technologies and their associated privacy concerns.

The main idea was to develop an alternative approach to learning makeup through physical light projection. I considered how traditional online tutorials often provide generalised guidance that may not suit individual facial features, creating an opportunity for a more personalised and hands-free experience.

GlowGuide featured a compact cylindrical body, interchangeable stencil reels for different makeup applications and an adjustable mounting system. Throughout the design process, I explored different forms, experimented with lenses and lighting, and used 3D printing, CAD modelling and iterative prototyping to refine the product’s functionality and appearance.

Ultimately, GlowGuide challenged conventional approaches to beauty education by offering a more intuitive, accessible and private learning experience. The project aimed to encourage confidence, independence and self-expression, allowing young people to explore makeup beyond the pressures and expectations of digital beauty standards.
