An Introspective Journey Through Adolescence

As a designer, my work deeply connects to identity, culture, and self-expression. Growing up in a male-dominated, sports-driven environment, I often felt at odds with rigid expectations. Fashion became my escape—a space where I could be bold and unapologetically myself. My collection, He Mihi Ki a Maioha, reflects this journey, blending high fashion, conceptual design, and streetwear. Using fabrics like cheesecloth, sheeps fur, and denim, and techniques such as hand-sewing, dyeing, and bleaching, I’ve created non-human silhouettes featuring leather shoulder undergarments and splayed bottoms that challenge convention. Each piece is a reflection of my personal story and a tribute to my tupuna (ancestors) and the spiritual connection they provide. My work explores hybridity, merging the fragile with the powerful, the past with the present, pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion.
