The painting series, Heavenly Creatures, named after Peter Jackson's 1994 film, explores the complexities of adolescent female friendships. Set against vast, stark landscapes, my female protagonists portray profound reliance on one another, finding solace and security in their unique bonds. Distant yet disruptive looming structures form an allegory for the stifling patriarchal expectations imposed on young women. Yet, within the sacred sanctuary of their friendship, they forge their own intricate systems and codes, fortifying their connection as a defence against external pressures.

This series of paintings is an intricate fusion of symbolism and narrative, born from a creative ecosystem of texts from films and literature. The titles of the paintings are taken from my practice of writing, which provides the fundamental structure for the narratives uncloaked on the canvas. The gaze of my figures subtly invites you into their mysterious worlds, marked by a resistance that reflects their autonomy and self-determination.
