An exploration of illumination

“Light glorifies everything. It transforms and ennobles the most commonplace and ordinary subjects. The object is nothing; light is everything.” - Léonard Misonne

‘Honey Lights’ is a work that combines projection with intentional lighting distortions in an aim to show the limitless potential of light to reveal, transform, and transcend, inviting the viewers to see the world through a new lens. The piece offers a captivating exploration of the ethereal beauty inherent in Manuka flowers, while combining them with manipulating illuminations as a way to invite reflection on the intersection of the natural world and human perception.

I've aimed to create a narrative where light interacts with the botanical subjects, simultaneously challenging them, while the distortions blur the boundaries between the real and the imaginary.  ‘Honey Lights’ was a journey for me to understand the extent to which we can manipulate and transform natural processes through artificial intervention. The work aims to shift the spotlight from the subject to the transformative qualities of light itself.
