I Still Hate Kūmara

Bachelor of Design Publication Cultural Identity Storytelling Identity Culture

For the rangatahi navigating the world.

This project explores the tension around authenticy and expectations when it comes to cultural identity. Relating this topic to my childhood experience of not liking Kūmara. Discussing this topic in a way that is appropriate for a young audience was essential in my approach, as I feel this project is something my younger self would appreciate. This project is intended to let kids know that ‘it’s okay’ to not fit neatly into traditional expectations. Using ‘The Kūmara’ as a playful metaphor to deliver this message.
