Performance, Commerce, and Moral Capital
Imagine Working Here: Performance, Commerce, and Moral Capital is a practice-led research project grounded in installation and sculpture, exploring how authenticity is staged across personal and public spheres as mediated by consumer culture. Drawing from lived/worked experience, pop culture, film/TV, theatre, and philosophical theory, the project uses the manufactured spectacle of reality television as a framework to investigate the contradictions of moral pursuit. It also reinterprets retail aesthetics to reveal the theatricality and temporality of modern material culture. By implicating my own global positioning—as both a retailer (in my real-life job) and a consumer—the work interrogates the slippery terrain of commercial participation and the complex performance of moral intention, through moving image and hand-made props.
