Exploring care and tension within the mother-daughter relationship.

Like Mother, Like Daughter is a celebration of womanhood explored through the complexity of the mother-daughter relationship. Intended for daughters aged 18-30 who are beginning to understand their mothers as individuals, it captures the quiet tensions and inherited patterns that shape a daughter’s understanding of womanhood through her mother. Using handwritten typography and a visual system drawn from fingerprints, the project creates an intimate, tactile language that reflects individuality and resemblance. It intends to create space for personal reflection and conversation around a topic that is not often discussed in this context. Responding to a gap in how daughters come to recognise their mothers as individuals, rather than solely through their role as caregivers, it examines the shift that occurs as daughters move into adulthood and begin to see their mothers as complex women with their own histories, desires, and vulnerabilities.
