Liminal Chaos

Liminal Chaos is a retail store for comics, manga and graphic novels based on futurism and deconstructivism, situated at the intersection of Balm Street and Nuffield Street, Newmarket. It welcomes everyone from day to night and invites people to another different world.

The shopfront is composed of glass windows, western red cedar panel cladding and aluminium latticework façade. These layers connected with each other filter lights and cast shadows. The revolving door creates a relatively dark space that people would slowly pass through when entering the store, as symbolizes the gutter in comics and emphasizes the existence of liminal space.

Chaotic shelves made of oriented strand boards create a dense space to encounter. Integrated furniture is introduced into the space, and the ends of each side of the shelf gradually turn into armchairs or standing stools. Moreover, chaotic acoustic ceiling baffles are installed for sound absorption.

Liminal Chaos reserves booths for events and exhibitions, and welcomes people to book in to showcase and promote their own works. It also provides water transfer printing service for people to customize their items.
