An Interactive Card Game Exploring Chinese Food, Festivals and Traditions

Lucky Feast is an interactive card game that explores how design can communicate Chinese cultural heritage through festival foods, traditions and storytelling. Informed by my experiences growing up as a Chinese Kiwi, this project explores how food brings people together and creates opportunities to connect with cultural identity. Although Chinese festivals are celebrated around the world, the cultural meanings, stories and traditions behind their foods may be less familiar, particularly to younger Chinese Kiwis.

Through cultural research, visual experimentation and game design, Lucky Feast aims to make Chinese cultural knowledge more accessible and engaging. By combining interactive gameplay with illustrations, packaging and a supporting publication, the project encourages players to discover the symbolism behind familiar foods, looking at regional differences and share cultural knowledge through play.
