“Manuia” is a celebration of my New Zealand-born Samoan identity. Both identities have shaped my worldview, self-expression and creativity. This project explores the fusion of Samoan and New Zealand cultures. Blending traditional and modern Pacific culture with styles influenced by 90s hip-hop fashion such as the signature oversized and baggy silhouettes. Incorporating the Samoan traditional art of weaving is a reflection of honouring and preserving my cultural identity within the modern world. This project reimagines cultural garments through a modern lens, merging Samoan traditions with 90s streetwear aesthetics to create a unique contemporary expression of identity.
