My project, Men of La Mancha, explored the adaptation of classic literature into an interactive format through game design. The game is a couch cooperative adventure where players embody Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, experiencing the world through a dual-reality mechanic that allows each player to see different perspectives of their shared environment. This demo focuses on the iconic battle with windmills, illustrating how gameplay can provide a new way of engaging with the narrative.
The brief called for a project that demonstrated a deep understanding of narratology and adaptation theory. I aimed to design a game that makes classic literature accessible to a broader audience, believing that interactive media has the potential to enhance the appreciation of timeless stories. By experimenting with this dual-reality mechanic, I highlighted the differences in perception between the two characters, thus mirroring the novel's themes. This project contributes to the growing field of games as tools for education and storytelling, reinforcing the potential of interactive narratives to convey valuable knowledge.
