Comics, Coffee and Printmaking Workshops
Mesh is a retail store on the corner of Nuffield Street that offers comics, coffee, and printmaking workshops, bringing together a wide range of the community and inviting them to take part—whether it's reading a comic book or using the skills seen in the comics through printmaking.
It’s inspired by the concept of halftoning a monoprint—a technique used in older comics, which I was drawn to because of its circular motifs. I experimented with laser engraving the image on paper, which led to the creation of delicate, deep red metal mesh screens. Placed by the windows, these screens filter light and blur the view of the street, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in their comics.
The space features three sections, defined by mesh bookshelves: Dissolve, Disperse, and Disappear. Each area is named to reflect visibility, filtered through the layers of red perforations.
I’ve designed a space that transforms 2D images into an immersive experience for comic enthusiasts to browse, socialize, and engage with comic art.
By participating in workshops or sharing a coffee, I aim to spark new interest in this niche category.
